Areas of Expertise

CBER provides consulting and engineering in areas related to solid biomass energy.  Projects we have worked on can be classified into five main areas:

District Heating:

From a small micro-grid at Baldy Hughes in BC with up to 8 consumers to large utility-scale heating networks supplying the entire town of Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Combustion & Gasification:

From a wood residue boiler at a furniture plant to gasification of slaughterhouse waste that might be infected by Mad-Cow disease.

Combined Heat & Power (CHP):

Small-scale biomass-fired CHP plants from back-pressure steam engines at a pellet mill to Organic-Rankine-Cycle (ORC) turbines for off-grid communities, such as Anahim Lake.

Emission Control:

From a small microgrid at Baldy Hughes in BC with up to 8 consumers to large utility-scale heating networks supplying the entire town of Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Pyrolysis & Torrefaction:

From wood-to-oil technologies using various pyrolysis technologies to biocoal pellets made in a torrefaction process.
