Selected Projects for Public Organizations
After an initial investigation in 2008 to 2009, the concept of a biomass burner
utilizing wood residue from the Joinery Department and the Carpentry Department has been revisited in 2010. CBER helped with an internal
application process and provided BCIT with a CAPEX, O&M costs, and a financial model for the investment and provided technical
support.
Canada's national wood products research institute contracted MAWERA
to develop a software tool that allows the secondary manufacturing industry to assess the logistical and economic viability of wood
residue combustion / heat gasification.
MAWERA acted as the general contractor for a
design-build turnkey pellet boiler installation at the Enhanced Forestry Laboratory at the University of Northern British Columbia
in Prince George. The pellet boiler was installed in a container boiler house and connected to two existing gas-fired boilers. This
is the first biomass boiler at a university in Canada.
